Position Title – Prep Cook
Reports to:  Chef
Location: Hyannis
Supervisory Responsibility: None

The Landing Cafe, Ocean Street Hyannis, part of Hy-Line Cruises is seeking a prep cook / line cook to work at our harborside restaurant!

If you are a line cook who can prep – or a prep cook who can work the line – we have a great opportunity for you to work the spring/summer/early fall season

Summary:

The Prep Cook ensures quality and stability of products by complying with production guidelines, following standardized recipes, and overseeing product quality through adequate storage and product rotation. With a positive demeanor and enthusiasm the Prep Cook will work effectively with the Chef and the kitchen team in the preparation of food items to ensure customer satisfaction and retention.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complies with established procedures, directions from the Chef, and food safety policies.
  • Prepare workstation with required ingredients and equipment, and keep station sanitary and organized throughout the shift.
  • Prepare ingredients following recipes and guidelines and/or Chef directions.
  • Ensure ingredients are tagged, date-labeled, covered, stored and rotated effectively.
  • Keep utensils and equipment clean and sanitary.
  • Remove trash and clear storage bins.

 

Licenses, Registrations, and/or Certifications:

None

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 16 years of age; 18 years if using a knife or slicer.
  • Prior experience as a prep cook strongly preferred.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age; 18 years old if using a knife or slicer.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to safely use kitchen equipment and appliances.
  • Ability to follow recipes.
  • Solid knowledge of food safety standards and procedures and food preparation fundamentals.
  • Sound understanding of food allergies and foodborne illnesses.
  • Proficient knife-handling skills.
  • Strong communication skills, math, and reading skills in English.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Must be able to safely perform the essential duties for the position, with or without, reasonable accommodation.

 

Typical Work Environments:

Harbor, marine environment, full restaurant and express/to go kitchens.
