Hyannis Day Trip

Well, hello summer! It’s so incredibly nice to see more people out and about enjoying this magnificent weather, and enjoying the beauty and fun of the Cape and Islands.

Many people seem to be embracing a day trip option for a getaway, and we put together some great ideas if your destination is Hyannis!

Getting to Hyannis

CapeFlyer
While we provide transportation from Hyannis to the islands, what about transportation to Hyannis? The CapeFlyer operates a terrific day trip option schedule on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer, leaving South Station in Boston and dropping you right in the heart of Hyannis, at the Hyannis Transportation Center.

Walk it off

Kennedy Legacy Trail

This 1.6-mile, self-guided walking tour starts at the JFK Museum on Main Street. There are 10 stops along the way, exploring the Kennedy Family’s Cape Cod history, ending at the Kennedy Memorial on Ocean Street.

Take a walk about HyannisMain Street

Home to 120 locally owned businesses and more than 50 restaurants, Main Street is bustling with those wanting to shop, dine, people watch, and simply stroll. What makes it even more pedestrian-friendly is that this year one lane (of the two-lane one-way street) has been blocked off to provide room for physical distancing and more space for the restaurants and retail shops. Starting this Friday, Main Street is also launching Movies on Main, a new drive-in movie opportunity, taking place at the corner of Main and High School Road Extension. This is available Friday nights through August 7th.

Hyannis Harbor on Ocean Street & Artist Shanties at Bismore Park

Our #1 choice for most Instagrammable spot in Hyannis is Hyannis Harbor in our onboard magazine! You’ll see commercial fishing (check out our own deep-sea fishing trips) and sightseeing boats, as well as recreational vessels. At Bismore Park there is a welcome center, head in the hole photo boards for the perfect photo opp and even Cornhole! One of our favorites is the Artist Shanties. You can stroll along Hyannis Harbor and meet Cape Cod artists working and selling their art. Artists’ work includes photography; painting (acrylics, oils, pastels, watercolors, etc.); handmade jewelry from metals, gemstones, glass, beach stones and more; ceramics; mosaics; mariner knot work; wood carving; tapestry; fiber art and much more.

Beach Day

Kalmus Beach comes with its own snack bar!Kalmus Beach

Our #2 most Instagrammable spot in Hyannis in our onboard magazine! Within walking distance from the Ocean Street Dock, Kalmus is hands-down, this is our favorite beach! And you can see all the Hy-Line ferries cruise out into Nantucket Sound. This beach is considered some of the best for windsurfing and has everything you need for the perfect beach day – lifeguards, snack bar, shower, restrooms, picnic area, and handicap chair.

Beer Me

Barnstable Brewery

Opening in 2017, the new kid on the block has quickly won over the locals with their fresh, craft beer and husband and wife team, Ann and Pete Connor, there to greet you and talk beer. Located on West Main Street, they have limited indoor tasting room seating available as well as a newly expanded “backyard” with Adirondacks, Cornhole, and giant Jenga!

Cape Cod Beer

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways… Keeping our thirst quenched these past few months with online beer cocktail classes, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day packages, and my favorite: a National Apple Pie Day celebration with a freshly baked apple pie and beer cocktail package, Cape Cod Beer has supported our community since 2004. Their new outdoor beer garden is open Monday through Saturday with LIVE MUSIC on Friday and Saturday afternoons (and you pretty much can’t get live music anywhere yet), well, you just gotta go. That is all.
