9 Places To Eat In Hyannis, on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket

If you’ve been around here for any length of time, you know that we always get the same questions from our customers and do our best to provide thorough answers! Hands down, the number 1 question we get is, “Where should we eat?” Well, the short answer is there are a LOT of great options on the Cape & Islands to choose from. We all have our favorites, and today we are sharing the local’s picks that we have gathered over the years. We have favorites from Hyannis, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, so where ever you are headed we have a spot for you to check out!

Best Restaurants in Hyannis

The Landing Café

We would be totally remiss to not mention our very own terminal dining option, The Landing Café. Whether you are strolling Hyannis and are looking for a cocktail and snack, or you need to grab some food before or after your ferry trip, The Landing has you covered. From the classic breakfast favorites, delicious sandwiches, salads, and soups, to the more exciting special appetizers and entrees they offer there is something to please any palette. Don’t forget the amazing drink specials, wine, and beer available as well. The top deck is the place to be in the summer, the views can’t be beat.

The Black Cat

Another Ocean Street favorite is The Black Cat, a fun eatery and bar just steps from our docks. Coined as casual waterfront dining, we think of it as a little more upscale. Serving delicious seafood, burgers, tex-mex, steaks, and so much more you cannot go wrong at this fan favorite. Live entertainment at their bar is a welcome touch and so much fun. The Black Cat is also a favorite among islanders who have some time to kill before getting on the boat back home! If Or, if you want an escape from the hustle and bustle of Ocean Street, check out their Shack Out Back. Yes, you’re on Ocean Street, but you’re not – you’re out back. It’s like you’re in a new little world, surrounded by beautiful, lush shrubs, on vibrantly green grass. There is a raw bar, high-top tables, and separate high-back chairs for lounging. Their extensive menu and specialty drinks make it the perfect hangout on Ocean Street. And they have live music on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons in the summer!

Other Restaurants to Try on Main Street Hyannis

Just a short walk from our docks is Main Street, Hyannis’ bustling downtown area chock full of restaurants and local businesses. The best restaurants in the area are here, ranging from casual to fancy, pizza & burgers to seafood, and ethnic specialties, there are over 15 restaurants, bars, and eateries on this street alone. Some of our favorites include Pizza Barbone, offering fast and fresh specialty pizzas and delicious appetizers, Tap City, a great spot to grab a drink with friends, and the best spot for Mexican and margaritas, Anejo. You can’t go wrong on Main Street no matter what you’re looking for!

Best Local Restaurants on Nantucket

Nantucket has a ton of local restaurants to try out, as there are no chain businesses on the island. Since there are so many options to choose from, we put together our favorite recommendations here for you. For a complete list of what is open this week, visit the Nantucket website’s restaurant section.

The Rose & Crown

Our favorite downtown Nantucket restaurant would have to be the Rose & Crown. A cozy pub with lots of seating, a great bar, tons of yummy food options, and live entertainment 7 days a week in the summer, you can’t beat it! Our favorite dish is the lobster BLT, but literally, everything on the menu is delicious. They’re also open late – in fact, it is the downtown restaurant and bar, as it’s Nantucket’s only downtown nightclub after 10.

Millie’s

Voted Best Island Takeout on Nantucket in 2020 by our customers, Millie’s is a great spot to grab a bite to eat, have a drink, and just genuinely enjoy Nantucket off the beaten path. Whether you are looking for seafood, tacos, sandwiches, or salads Millie’s has delicious options. Their food is fresh, their drinks are strong, and the view from their porch cannot be beaten. They are open from May – October and this year they have reservations for sunset seating. Definitely check them out!

Best Ice Cream on Nantucket: Juice Bar

The Juice Bar is to Nantucket what Cape Cod Creamery is to Cape Cod. Everyone knows it, it’s absolutely delicious, and the ice cream is summer in a cone. We go out of our way to visit every time we’re on Nantucket, it’s THAT good. With over 30 homemade flavors, as well as frozen yogurt and sorbet you will be overwhelmed in the best possible way. A local favorite, it was voted best ice cream on the island by our customers in 2020. You can’t go wrong with a visit to the Juice Bar!

Best Places to Eat on Martha’s Vineyard

Wharf Pub

Voted in our people’s choice takeout favorite on Martha’s Vineyard, Wharf Pub is a cozy pub located in Edgartown that does fantastic classics. They are open year-round, have a large menu, and have live entertainment Thursday – Saturday nights in their bar area. The pub is a great place to grab a beer and a quick bite, and their restaurant area offers a more family-friendly vibe with plenty of seating. A little something for everyone, if you’re ever out in Edgartown be sure to check it out!

MV Chowder Company

Where we dock in Oak Bluffs there are a multitude of amazing restaurants and eateries to delight any palette, but we definitely can’t not talk about the Martha’s Vineyard Chowder Company. It’s just THAT good. It is located across from the Flying Horses Carousel in Oak Bluffs, about a 3-minute walk from where we dock. The chowder is phenomenal – as you would expect from award-winning chowder – but there are so many other amazing choices on the menu too. If you’re partial to locally owned restaurants and fresh and delicious food, then this place is a must-visit if you are in Oak Bluffs!

Best Ice Cream on Martha’s Vineyard: Mad Martha’s

When you’re out and about in the summer, ice cream always sounds good! When you’re on Martha’s Vineyard, there is only one place to go – Mad Martha’s. Located right on Circuit Ave in Oak Bluffs, and in two other locations across the island, this scoop shop is the place to be for a sweet treat. The cute story of “Mad Martha” and her frozen cream is that she played around with it until it became ice cream and she was then happy again! Tons of flavors, extremely creamy, and refreshing on a hot summer day. You’ve just got to have a scoop (or three!)

PHEW! We sure do have a lot of awesome restaurants around here, we’ve just scratched the surface with these. We could write a book of all of the amazing local restaurants on the Cape, but these are the best of the best, voted on by our customers and employees, who we trust to guide us.
