Episode 2: By the Docks
In our last episode, we showed you what you can expect arriving at Hy-Line for your ferry trip to Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket. We were so bold as to ask you to arrive 45 minutes early for parking, ticketing and boarding. But what happens when you do arrive early and have some free time? What can you do? In this episode, we share with you what’s down by the docks to enjoy before your ferry trip.
Food & Drink: At Hy-Line Landing, you have choices when it comes to grabbing a bite to eat. The Raw Bar serves lunch and dinner daily, in-season. The most memorable and notable item at The Raw Bar is their lobster roll. Billy Costa of NECN’s TV Diner named it the #1 Lobster Roll in New England. That’s a pretty big deal! This delicious dish was also featured on Channel 5’s Chronicle and The Phantom Gourmet. They have a full bar downstairs and on the deck upstairs, overlooking the activity on the harbor. ” I had time to kill before my Nantucket ferry and was ravenously hungry. I stopped in at the Raw Bar and left quite sated. Chowder and twin lobster dinner hit the spot. Sitting outside gave a lovely view of the harbor. The service was good and so was the food. I would return next time I am in Hyannis.”
The Coffee Table Cafe serves breakfast and lunch daily, in-season. They are Ocean Street’s #1 choice for coffee and fresh baked goods! Here you’ll find a coffee bar, pastries (two thumbs up for the cheese nutella pastry), muffins (hint: chocolate chip) and cookies. Or grab a smoothie, soup (chicken vegetable is my favorite!), fresh salad or sandwich. They have many grab-and-go items like the bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich on a bagel (customer favorite!) to take right on the boat with you. “A nice coffee shop as we waited for the ferry to Nantucket. The coffee was good and there were enough snacks and food items available for all tastes.”
Both The Raw Bar and The Coffee Table Cafe are celebrating 10 Years with us in 2018!
Also on the dock, is Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream. Sweet treat yourself with a tasty ice cream cone! They also have specialty items such as a banana split or brownie special. Whether you are visiting Cape Cod for the first time or call the Cape home, everyone can find Peace, Love, and Ice Cream at Ben & Jerry’s.
Stretch Your Legs: Walk along the Ocean Street Dock and Bismore Park. You’ll see commercial fishing and sightseeing boats, as well as recreational vessels. At Bismore Park there is a welcome center, head in the hole photo boards for the perfect photo opp and even Cornhole! One of our favorites is the Artist Shanties. You can stroll along Hyannis Harbor and meet Cape Cod artists working and selling their art. Artists’ work includes photography; painting (acrylics, oils, pastels, watercolors, etc.); handmade jewelry from metals, gemstones, glass, beach stones and more; ceramics; mosaics; mariner knot work; wood carving; tapestry; fiber art and much more.
If you have some extra time before your ferry, you have options at the Ocean Street Dock. Because as soon as you get out of your car, your vacation begins!
